The Founder

Meet The Founder

Hi, I’m Kiruka Nwachukwu—an educator at heart and the founder of Pleasant Home School. My journey into teaching wasn’t exactly planned; in fact, I thought I’d end up anywhere but a classroom. But life has its way of leading us to our purpose, and for me, that purpose became clear when I served as a youth corps member teaching in a school. Seeing young minds light up as they understood a concept, grasped a new skill, or spoke confidently—it changed everything for me.

Over the years, teaching evolved from being a job to becoming my life’s work. I’ve been in education for 29 years, and before that, I was “teaching” anyone who’d listen. From the children’s department at church to classrooms in Ota, Ogun State, teaching has always been my way of giving back, nurturing futures, and making a difference.

About Pleasant Home School

When I founded Pleasant Home School, I had one goal: to create a space where children can thrive—academically, spiritually, and socially. Located in the vibrant community of Iyesi in Ota, our school welcomes learners from just three months old to 18 years old.

At Pleasant Home School, we believe every child deserves more than just knowledge. We teach our students to dream big, express themselves boldly, live with integrity, and grow spiritually. Through daily prayers, devotionals, and Bible-based teachings, we help our students build a strong moral foundation and nurture their relationship with God.

Our programs go beyond academics. We’ve woven skills like music, dance, public speaking, robotics, graphic design, garment making, and even plumbing into our curriculum. It’s not just about passing exams—it’s about equipping our students for life and eternity.

Why I Do This?

Growing up, I saw firsthand how many children struggled to speak proper English or express themselves confidently. It broke my heart because I knew they were capable of so much more. Running this school became my way of changing that narrative—one child at a time.

It’s not always easy, but moments like seeing a child who was once labeled as “difficult” blossom into a star pupil make every challenge worth it. Knowing that some of our alumni now manage businesses, work in government, or run their own organizations reminds me why I started this journey.

Achievements We’re Proud Of

At Pleasant Home School, we don’t just celebrate awards—we celebrate transformations. That said, we’ve had our fair share of achievements, including:

Winning the 2014 Art Competition at White Lily School in Lagos.

Earning accolades at Raypower’s Genius Corner for three consecutive years.

Training over 50 graduates who are now thriving in various fields.

But for me, the real win is seeing children who were once overlooked now standing tall, confident, and ready to take on the world—both in their careers and in their faith.

My Vision for the Future

If there’s one thing I dream of, it’s expanding our impact. I hope to one day open a home for children whose families can no longer care for them, providing them with love, education, and hope for a brighter future. I also want to empower more teachers with the skills and knowledge they need to make an even bigger difference in the classroom.

What Inspires Me

Two things keep me going: my faith and the people I look up to. The Holy Spirit has been my compass through it all, and I draw so much inspiration from Mama Akinjumi, the founder of Dansol School. Her story reminds me that with God and grit, there’s no limit to what’s possible.

Balancing Life and Work

Being a mother and a school leader can be a lot, but I’ve been blessed with an amazing support system. My husband, Mr Chijioke, is my rock, and my grown children are always ready to step in when I need them. At work, I’ve learned the art of delegation, which gives me time to recharge and grow.

Our Core Values

At Pleasant Home School, we stand for:

Spirituality: Building faith and moral grounding in every student.

Excellence: Striving to be the best in all we do.

Possibility Mentality: Teaching that with God, nothing is impossible.

Integrity: Doing what’s right, even when it’s hard.

Responsibility: Raising individuals who are accountable and dependable.

My Mantra

At Pleasant Home School, we live by the motto:

“Towards Excellence.”

For me, that means always pushing to be better, do better, and give my best to every child, every time.

A Message to All

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that no matter how hard things may seem, there’s always hope. Like I tell my students, There is an end, and an expectation—and the expectations of the righteous shall not be cut short.”
